Cow Pots

Gardeners put a lot of time and effort into attaining the best and healthiest plants in their gardens. A great way to increase the chances of success is to start your growing season with Cow Pots , or CowPots™.

These pots are a great way to give your seedlings a fantastic head start on the growing season. Using them is a cost-effective, environmentally friendly way to produce stronger, healthier plants.

What Are They?

Cow pots are seed starter pots made from 100% composted cow manure. During the manufacturing process, weeds, odors and pathogens are removed from the manure, leaving only natural fiber that is shaped into small pots. This makes them a great start for organic gardening.

Unlike plastic pots, these pots are planted directly in the soil at transplanting time. Plastic pots, which are not biodegradable and are usually tossed in the trash after use, are not environmentally friendly.

These efficient pots give back and go back to the earth instead of adding to the landfill. And as good as peat pots are, they are derived from peat mined in bogs, which is not a renewable resource. Manure is most definitely a renewable resource, as any farmer will tell you.

How Cow Pots Work

Start seeds in a cow pot and let them germinate and start to grow. The pot will not break down right away, lasting up to twelve weeks.

This is more than the usual amount of time before seedlings are transplanting into the soil. During this time, the seedling will attain a strong root system in preparation for transplanting.

When ready to transplant, plant the whole pot in the prepared garden soil. There's no need to break up the pot or remove the seedling from the cow pot.

As the seedling grows, roots can grow through the pot, working their way into the surrounding soil.

Within three to four weeks, the cow pot starts to break down and the seedling will be well established in its new soil bed.

There is no danger of transplant shock, since the seedling is not being removed and roots are not disturbed during transplanting.

Additionally, while the cow pot biodegrades into the soil, it releases nitrogen, enriching the garden bed naturally.

By starting seedlings indoors or in greenhouses in cow pots, you also extend their growing season, thus increasing the potential harvest.

Other Benefits

Dairy farmers that recycle cow manure are able to maintain cleaner farms. Since there is an ongoing abundance of manure on dairy farms, this would be an otherwise time-consuming and wasteful chore.

Additionally, during the manufacturing of the pots, farmers are able to extract green energy, further reducing the carbon footprint of the farm. Cow Pots are the epitome of a green product.

Using Cow Pots to start seeds for a home garden, whether flowers, vegetables or herbs, is a great way to jump-start the season and provide your tender, young plants with a healthy start to their growing cycle.
