Garden Weasel
How many times have you cursed the ground you are standing on? Nobody wants to hate their garden, but just how hard does that soil have to be? And just how well do those weeds have to grow? There are many tools available to you these days for weeding and ground preparation.
What you choose is dependent on your taste, space and budget. But so far, for versatility and comfort, the Garden Weasel line seems to offer some of the easiest pieces to work with, and also tools that work well together. What is a Garden Weasel? The Garden Weasel is a line of super duty tools that allow you to plant a garden where only stones and weeds would grow before. The versions with longer handles also help you to reach those tougher areas that you thought that you couldn’t stretch to. By working the soil with these great tools, you are also helping to conserve water in your garden. By turning the soil, loosening it, aerating it, you are actually crafting soil that will actually absorb water. Not just let it run off like it will with the hard packed dirt. How smart is that? How Does a It Work?
Most Garden Weasel’s are designed so there is little or no bending required. The rolling tines go deep into the soil, loosening as they go. There is also the Claw series that helps you loosen tough clay soil with a simple turning motion. The rolling action is also great for pulling weed roots to the surface. So you are really accomplishing two tasks at once. Aeration and weeding, great combination! You can even detach the tines so that you can work in between and around the rows. Making it much easier to weed and cultivate the soil. If you happen to be one of the lucky ones who live in areas where the soil isn’t so tough, you know you still have the weeds. As well as the aeration benefits of this tool, the weeding advantages just can’t be beat. The tines are constantly working into the soil at a depth of 1 ½ inches, turning the soil and pulling up your weeds. Which One to Choose
There are a variety of different Garden Weasels available, but here are the three that seem to be the most commonly used. *The original Garden Weasel has a 55” handle and is used for cultivating in and around your garden. The tines work the soil to a depth of 1 ½ “and keep it aerated. *The Garden Claw series is meant for breaking up heavy clay soil. Most people use the two together during the season. They use the Claw for the start of the season and the Weasel for the duration of the season. *The Edger is just that… An edger will help you to create the straight or curved lines that will help your garden area stay nice and tidy. Working your soil can be a back breaking process in order to get ready for the planting season. By using the right tool for the job, what once was a task viewed with loathing, can be an enjoyable time in your garden.
