Organic Heirloom Tomato Seeds

There are several different types of heirloom tomatoes available. Most common is the family heirloom, seeds of a favorite variety that have been passed down through several generations.

Commercial heirlooms are varieties that have been in circulation from commercial sellers since before 1940 and have not been crossed with other plants. Yet another group includes 2 parent heirlooms that have been crossed to create a third variety.

And a fourth group covers different heirlooms that have naturally crossed thanks to the wind and bees spreading pollen to produce a mystery heirloom.

Many heirloom varieties have been lost over the years, with large manufacturers creating hybrids that are pollinated under controlled conditions to produce consistent characteristics, such as disease resistance, size or shape of the fruit.

Organic tomatoes and seeds are not genetically modified, grown from organic tomato seeds using organic methods.

This includes soil that is organic and has not been treated with fungicides, chemical pesticides or non-organic fertilizers. Organic tomatoes are available in a wide variety of types, sizes and colors.
